About Eileen |
Eileen McGee is an independent Humboldt County video producer and graphic artist. She’s taught video production to adults and youth for art and education organizations in Humboldt County for more than 10 years: public service announcements, documentary pieces, journalistic interviews, studio production, poetry and music videos, and just about anything else that the creative minds of her clients and students want to work on.
McGee considers her niche community media. Eileen's clientele provide the kind of variety that keeps her work fresh. She creates monthly poetry videos with A Reason to Listen, documentaries with government and community groups (Finding Your Way Through: Humboldt County Task Force on Postpartum Mood Disorder, Uprooted: a History of Hmong Gardeners). She has worked on several public access television productions, most recently a series with the academic community, The Mythic Imagination: Conversations on Religion and Contemporary Culture. Eileen is comfortable taking on the role of coach or advisor when working with clients and encourages them to be involved in the production process. McGee offers graphic design services and print layout. She collaborated with iconic poet Amde Hamilton in creating Me Today, You Tomorrow (2006) in print and digital formats. Therese FitzMaurice likened Eileen’s contributions to that of a midwife, in regards to her elegant design and layout for FitzMaurice’s collection How to Love this Woman (2016). McGee began her career by completing the Digital Media program at College of the Redwoods. Eileen went on to Humboldt State University to get her degree in Journalism and minor in Women's Studies. She delved into political science along the way and is very interested in the way that media shapes public opinion and culture. She continued her education at the StoryCenter in Berkeley to learn digital storytelling and facilitates small workshops for groups and organizations. (http://www.story-connections.org/) Contact her at Eileen.McGee@humboldt.edu or (707) 616-6009 to discuss your project. If you would like a high-quality recording of a poetry performance, she films at Humboldt Poetry the first Thursday of every Month at The Siren’s Song in Old Town, Eureka. You can get a YouTube ready file of your performance for $25. |
