Humboldt Stories: Jerry MartienNearly twenty years after studying poetry with Jerry Martien at HSU, I invited Jerry to sit down and explore the relationship of poetry, value, and the Art of living. Our conversation begins discussing one of my all time favorite collections of poetry, Pieces of Place. Many of the poems in this series end with a particular location, Humboldt Bay, Trinidad Bay, Elk River. I’ve always been curious if these poems were written in those specific places or rather documented an ongoing relationship with the land. —Therese FitzMaurice
